A Fine Day in the Rain

Today it rained. We ducked between drops to visit a few art galleries interspersed with cups of coffee ...

from one end of Lower Stuart Street ...

to the other; and the Octagon, where Robbie Burns looks on with his back to the church and facing the pubs; so the saying goes ...

Glass bottles in the window of the place where we had our second cup of coffee.
It wasn't until I looked at this photo more closely later that I noticed the word Tobermory on one of the green bottles: the name of the village on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, where ABM and I worked in the summer of 1977.

My first Sunday off since before Christmas; celebrated by a day with ABM and rain, coffee, lunch out, art, a movie and take-aways on the way back home. Nothing could be nicer.

I lived in Dunedin for 17 years, so all your lovely photos bring back memories ... but none more so that the picture in the right column of Te Waewae Bay. When we lived in Invercargill, my Dad was a fisheries inspector whose beat stretched from The Nuggets in the East to Milford Sound in the West (and included Stewart Island/Rakiura). He often used to take me to Te Waewae Bay - I dammed streams on the beach while he looked for poachers. I haven't been back there for many years, but one day, I intend to return.

Sounds like a perfect day (apart from the rain maybe)! I was temporarily confused by the fact your post is dated Monday March 3rd, it's still lunch time on Sunday here!

Oh I don't know, even the rain sounds perfect. Happy turn towards autumn!

Hehe. We used to have a statue of Brigham Young downtown, with his back to the temple and his hand outstretched toward the bank (as the saying goes). I'm so glad you had a nice Sunday off, and spent it so well! Nice post.

Hi, Chief:

I love going out hopping through raindrops to be out and about. It is such a relief to get to a destination, relax, then prepare for another round of Raindrop Roulette once more.

Even more fun when accompanied by squeals of delight from the little monkeys.

Your autumn is shortly arriving. The leaf on the stone reminded me that I get to look forward to some even more colorful photo posts (hint hint!) from you soon!

Be well, Chief.

Hi Kay,
Love the leaf on the pavement. That's a very familiar Dunedin image for me.
Also, I like your new intro.

meander knot press - Thank you so much!

pepek - Burns is a Scottish poet; Dunedin being the Scottish flavoured town it is.

avus - You said it!

What a divine day and you have truly found the beauty in it.

Now that I have a new roof, I don't mind hearing the sound of rain on it, which some love.

Those kinds of days are compulsory. And it sounds like you have a good list of how to fill it up! :-) Nice pics.

Clocking Out

I have been neglecting this blog for some months. I think perhaps I should face facts and accept that it is indeed time to retire this blog...
