Hello you! The first red tulip at our place.

Mum always had them in the garden when we were growing up.  Tulips all in a row along a narrow garden under the brick wall. In the typical way of kids with no concept of 'not having time', I remember examining them intimately - their dark, velvet centres particularly intriguing.  They weren't the sturdiest of flowers, or particularly long-lasting - any wind would annihilate them and as they got old, their petals would separate and gape, then drop off leaving the black centre looking like the stranded filament of a broken light-bulb.
