Granddaughter Has Arrived

An even more exciting weekend away than anticipated, as it turned out, with the news that granddaughter arrived - three weeks early. S rang us in Queenstown Saturday night from Kyoto to tell us the news - she was born on May 31st; midnight NZ time, 9.00 pm Kyoto time. We all thought she was going to be a June baby, but she obviously had other ideas.
(I will perhaps post the photos we were emailed later on - after the proud parents have had a chance to let family and friends see first. But you can take it from me, she's just wonderful!)

This is the view that ABM's parents have from their dining table.

Walter Peak from across Lake Wakatipu.

Unaware at this time that our granddaughter was on her way, we went for a quiet stroll through the mall. Town was quiet - the ski fields don't open until next weekend. Bought two kiwi music cds. Don McGlashan's 'Warm Hands' and the Muttonbirds, 'Salty'.

On the Sunday, we travelled from Queenstown to ABM's brother's farm in Waikaka for a family reunion. Here we are raising glasses to toast the new addition to the family. 'Happiness and Health to 'Miniko'."

Yes, congratulations to all! I am so looking forward to pictures, when you are able to share them.

Glad you had such a nice mini-vacation that ended so well with a mini-granddaughter, Mini! :D

We are leaving tomorrow for the North Woods to visit grandsons I and K, and of course, their Mom and Dad, and Maya the Granddog.

I love having grandchildren - you can love them, spoil them rotten and then send them back home!
What a view from the breakfast table - the snow-capped Remarkables.
Oh! New Zealand. Planned to come back next year for a month, but can only afford the 6 week trip to see daughter in W.Australia. Wonder if we shall ever get back again - I loved the place.
